To generate tourism Yogyakarta Merapi volcano disaster, the government made various efforts. One way is to bring Richard Gere to Yogyakarta on 25 to 27 June 2011.
Richard Gere will attend the Morning Peace Walk with Buddhist monks at Borobudur. He is participating in the Bodhi Tree Planting in the garden of the temple of Borobudur, visit Pawon, and Mendut temple.
Director General (DG) Marketing Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Sapta Nirwandar, said the arrival of Richard Gere to the Borobudur temple is supposed to give a positive impact for Indonesia, so it attracts many foreign tourists to visit Borobudur Temple.
"This event is one way of promoting, among others, we invite prominent persons such as actor Richard Gere. With so many fans Gere in Asia, America and Europe, the arrival of this Gere is expected to further introduce the Borobudur and Prambanan temples throughout the world, "said Nirwandar, told reporters at a news conference on Friday (17/06/2011).
In addition, the President Director of PT. Park Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, Purnomo Siswoprasetjo, explained after the eruption of Mount Merapi current condition of the Borobudur are beautiful and ready to receive guests. To that end we invited Richard Gere to visit the area around the temple, so I can enjoy the whole temple.
